Re:Connect Records was originally set up to showcase the tougher side of "big system" breaks, kicking off in 2003 with Spanish producers SFX Beats mighty tune "Serious Sound". From then the label championed this sound through building up the roster, and putting out further releases from High Eight, Transformer Man, and Madam Breaks.In 2004 the label discovered Merka, aka Mark Ford, who brought to the table a huge release in the form of Holding On & Flabbo, a two-tracker showing off his awesome production, and skills with a Bass Station. Holding On was licensed for the Freestylers' Fabric Compilation and was a huge hit within the breaks community. Second releases from SFX Beats (Carnival / Hungry) and High Eight (Open Your Eyes / Thru Time) kept the quality high and the release schedule flowing into 2005, when the label were lucky enough to release two fantastic tracks from Greece-based producer Etostone. This started a turning point in the direction the label was going in, opting still for tough style, but leaning more towards a crossover appeal to all breaks fans.
Towards the end of 2005 Re:Connect released the incredibly funky Refunk single Glade Belter / It's Groovy, and a much more subdued tune from Janette Slack - Never Enough. Janette Slack's release saw the second major direction change, being backed with a dirty house mix from another newcomer Dogmatix. These two incredibly talented up and coming producers are forging the way forward for the label, alongside long-time Re:Connect artist High Eight whose last offering in June 2006 was be a full vocal track backed with a huge remix from Splitloop.
In 2007 the label increased it's output to almost double that in previous years, welcoming new artists and new sounds. New signings came in the form of Dr Awkward, Beta and Carbon Community, adding to the already strong roster and branching out in style always keen to push more than one side of the breaks genre. 2007 was a huge year for the label with releases such as Carbon Community's "Shot Tub" (backed with the Lawgiverz remix of "Dr Spectacles"), Beta's "Trojan", plus more from Refunk, and the genre-busting "The Flow" by American production duo Beep!
2008 will continue where 2007 left off, with more new artists and new sounds joining the label. Keep an eye out for new material from Karl Sav & Nikita, Platinum Mules, ID, plus the first single from High Eight in nearly two years and our first artist album from Refunk.
In the five years the label has been around the sound has changed, but the ethos of the label has remained intact - keeping the quality high and offering something a little different to the rest.
